The 3 Main Methods for Hiding TV Wires
A cable raceway is a plastic channel that attaches to your wall surface and hides cables inside it. They come in white or can be painted to match your wall. No cutting into drywall required.
- Cheapest option ($15–40)
- No wall cutting required
- DIY installable
- Reversible
- Visible on the wall
- Doesn't look fully built-in
- Can look cheap if done poorly
In-wall cable kits route your HDMI and low-voltage cables through the drywall using two wall plates — one behind the TV and one near the outlet. The power cable still runs externally unless you add an in-wall power kit (which requires an electrician for a new outlet).
- Cleaner look than raceway
- Cables completely hidden
- Moderate cost ($30–80)
- Power cord still exposed
- Requires cutting drywall
- Easy to make mistakes
This is what we call The Clean Install at Mighty Mounts. We run all cables through the wall, install a hidden power outlet directly behind the TV, and add a low-voltage brush plate channel — so absolutely nothing is visible. The result looks completely built-in, like it came from a showroom.
- Zero visible wires
- Looks completely built-in
- Power hidden too
- Professional finish
- Requires a professional
- Higher cost ($249 on drywall)
Can You Hide TV Wires on Brick, Stone, or Tile?
Yes — but it's significantly more complex. On masonry and tile surfaces, running cables inside the wall isn't practical. The best approach is a color-matched surface raceway that follows the grout lines or wall texture as closely as possible. For a truly clean finish on masonry or tile, we recommend a custom consultation — every job is different.
Never run a standard power cable inside a wall. This is a fire hazard and a code violation. In-wall power requires either a UL-listed in-wall rated power kit or a new outlet installed by a licensed electrician. Our Clean Install uses a proper in-wall outlet — never an extension cord hidden in the wall.
DIY vs. Professional — Which Should You Choose?
If you're comfortable with basic tools, a surface raceway is a reasonable DIY project. An in-wall cable kit is manageable if you're handy and willing to patch drywall if something goes wrong.
However, for the cleanest possible result — where zero cables are visible, power is hidden, and everything looks professionally installed — hiring a pro is the way to go. Our Clean Install package at $249 includes everything: mount installation, hidden outlet, and full cord concealment on drywall. Most homeowners find it's absolutely worth it.
