Mounting a TV above a fireplace is one of the most popular requests we get across Denver and the Colorado Front Range — and one of the most technically demanding. Done right, it looks absolutely stunning. Done wrong, it can crack your tile, damage your brick, or leave you with a TV that's uncomfortable to watch because it's angled wrong.
This guide covers everything Denver homeowners need to know before mounting a TV above their fireplace — wall types, bracket choices, cord concealment, heat considerations, and pricing.

Fireplace Wall Types in Denver Homes
Tile Fireplaces
Tile is the most common fireplace surround in newer Denver-area homes — especially in Parker, Centennial, Lone Tree, Castle Rock, and Aurora new construction. It looks beautiful and modern, but it's the most technical wall type to mount into. Drilling into tile without the right equipment cracks it. We use precision diamond-tipped bits at the correct speed and pressure to drill cleanly without damage. Tile installations are $199.
Brick and Masonry Fireplaces
Brick and stone fireplaces are common in Denver's older neighborhoods — Washington Park, Capitol Hill, Highland, Baker, Congress Park, and Stapleton's older builds. Masonry requires specialty anchors and bits but is actually more forgiving than tile in terms of drill technique. Masonry and brick fireplace mounts are $125.
Drywall Above the Fireplace
Some fireplaces have a drywall surround above the firebox — especially in newer construction. This is the most straightforward mounting scenario. Drywall installs above a fireplace are $99, same as any other drywall mount.
The Most Important Thing: Use a Tilting Mount
This is the single biggest mistake people make when mounting a TV above a fireplace — using a flat/fixed mount. When your TV is mounted above a fireplace, it's higher than typical eye level. A flat mount means you're craning your neck upward the entire time you're watching, which gets uncomfortable fast.
We always recommend a tilting mount for above-fireplace installations. A tilt mount lets you angle the screen downward — typically 5-15 degrees — so it faces your seating position naturally. The difference in viewing comfort is significant. Tilt mounts are $40 through Mighty Mounts, or we can install your own bracket.
Cord Concealment for Fireplace TV Mounts
This is where above-fireplace installs get interesting. You've got a beautiful mounted TV — and then a bundle of cables running down the front of your fireplace surround. It completely ruins the look.
We offer two solutions:
- The Clean Install ($249 on drywall / custom on masonry and tile) — we run all cables and power completely inside the wall, install a hidden low-voltage outlet behind the TV, and bring a second outlet up from below. Zero visible wires anywhere. This is the premium option and it's stunning.
- Surface raceway ($5/ft) — on tile and brick where in-wall wiring is more complex, we can run cables in a slim surface channel down the side of the fireplace. Painted to match, barely visible, dramatically cleaner than loose cables.
Heat Considerations for Above-Fireplace TV Mounting
One concern homeowners frequently raise is heat from the fireplace damaging the TV. Here's the honest answer: for most gas fireplaces and electric fireplaces, heat is not a significant concern — the heat rises and dissipates well before reaching a TV mounted 12-18 inches above the firebox.
For wood-burning fireplaces with significant heat output, we recommend checking your TV's operating temperature range (in the manual or manufacturer website) and considering a full-motion mount that lets you swing the TV away from the wall when the fire is burning. We can advise during our visit.
